Victoria Ababio

Research Methodologist

A rising innovator in biotechnology, I bring bilingual fluency across scientific disciplines to strengthen the vital intersection between research, medicine, and technology. My work focuses on bridging gaps, fostering collaboration, and driving breakthroughs that transform ideas into impact.

Background

For past four years I have spent my college and professional career learning the art of clinical research and patient care. With the new found knowledge in addition to my masters degree I hope to obtain a PhD in Biomedical/Translational Medicine. I would like my work to focus on the intersectionality between research, medicine, and medical device. Unlike most in the field, I am trilingual in a multitude of specialties. I have first hand knowledge on the perspectives of all stakeholders, which is essential to the user experience of research and product development. This unique foundation positions me to lead at the crossroads of research, medicine, and technology, where the next generation of biomedical innovation will emerge.

Relevant Research

EKG & Caffeine Effects on Test Performance

  1. Designed and implemented a study measuring the effects of caffeine consumption on working memory and physiological arousal using EKG (SpikerBox) in a test-like environment

  2. Conducted participant recruitment, Qualtrics-based screening, and pre/post-exam EKG data collection to analyze heart rate variability

  3. Ran statistical tests (Pearson correlation, t-tests) on caffeine dosage, heart rate, and task performance (hit/false alarm rates), highlighting nuanced relationships between arousal and accuracy

  4. Programmed and modified PsychoPy working memory task for data collection; led report writing and methodological troubleshooting

R21: Schizophrenia and Decision Making

  1. Conducted functional neuroimaging data processing (fMRI) using SPM12 and AFNI to extract BOLD signals from key brain regions (DLPFC, amygdala, mesolimbic circuit) for schizophrenia patients

  2. Performed quality control on neuropsychological assessments, ensured HIPAA-compliant data entry into REDCap

  3. Applied statistical analyses in R to correlate neural activation with symptom severity; contributed to NIH progress reports and IRB documentation

  4. Collaborated on regulatory tasks to ensure compliance with NIH and IRB standards; supported data de-identification and secure archiving protocols

Neural Mechanisms of the Ventriloquism Effect

  1. Explored fMRI and EEG findings from Bonath, Callan, and Park & Kayser to explain visual-auditory spatial integration in human perception

  2. Mapped key brain regions (STS, Planum Temporale, IPS, prefrontal cortex) involved in sensory recalibration and neuroplasticity

  3. Presented implications for rehabilitation, VR/AR design, and brain-computer interface development

  4. Authored final group review highlighting temporal and spatial mechanisms behind trial-wise vs. cumulative perceptual adaptation

Health Disparities in Maternal Outcomes

  1. Investigated historical trends and modern disparities in U.S. maternal mortality using CDC and PMC data
